Tanmatrra Eco Luxe Resorts

FAQ's

Tanmatrra means “subtle elements” — the core idea behind our resort. Every detail here is thoughtfully designed to stay in harmony with nature’s five elements:

🌱 Earth (Prithvi): Our cottages and walls are built using the earth from our own site, rammed and strengthened naturally over time, grounding you in the spirit of the land.

💧 Water (Jala): A gentle brook flows through our property, swelling into a lively river during the monsoons — this pure water nourishes our resort.

🔥 Fire (Agni): Solar power is our main energy source, complemented by private fireplaces in every cottage backyard. Traditional Malenadu wood-fired stoves (Astra Ole) add warmth to our cooking and heat the bathing water too.

🌬️ Air (Vayu): The air here is crisp, clean, and often misty. Wind chimes in every room remind you to pause and savour the breeze.

☁️ Ether (Akasha): Surrounded by majestic mountains, Tanmatrra sits within a unique micro-ecosystem. The weather stays refreshingly cool, with surprise drizzles even when none are forecast — we always suggest packing rain gear and sunscreen!

At Tanmatrra, you don’t just stay — you experience nature’s subtle elements woven into every moment.

Life at Tanmatrra is intentionally slow-paced and mindful. It may not be the perfect fit if you’re looking for high-speed internet, loud entertainment, fast food, or partying — and that’s by design.

Tanmatrra is a pioneer in the region as an eco-luxury resort, with a true emphasis on eco. We follow the 4 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle/Upcycle, and Refuse — from how we built our cottages to how we operate every day.

Our walls are made from rammed earth, and much of our construction material — doors, windows, roof tiles — comes from beautifully reclaimed parts of traditional local homes. Our furniture is crafted from upcycled wood by local artisans.

We’re proud to be the region’s first rammed earth property, powered 100% by solar energy. Our food is region-specific, prepared fresh with local ingredients on traditional Malenadu wood-fired stoves.

At Tanmatrra, you don’t just stay — you slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience a life that’s truly in harmony with the land.

At Tanmatrra, sustainability isn’t just a policy — it’s our way of life. While we may not have the flashy extras of a typical 5-star hotel, we offer you a peaceful, comfortable stay where you can slow down, reconnect with nature, and enjoy a simpler, healthier way of living.

Here’s how we walk our talk:

  • Plastic-Free Zone: We’re proudly single-use plastic-free — from refillable glass water bottles with clean well water to thoughtful, eco-friendly toiletries. You’ll find a bamboo reusable toothbrush (yours to carry home!), handmade toxin-free soap, and herbal tooth and hair powders — all plastic-free and safe for you and the environment.
  • Mindful Shopping & Waste: We use biodegradable dustbin covers, cloth bags, and reusable steel containers for all our purchases — helping cut down waste and plastic at every step.
  • Energy Conscious: There are no TVs or air conditioning in our cottages — this saves energy and invites you to truly soak in the fresh mountain air and peaceful sounds of nature. We encourage you to switch off lights and fans when not in use.
  • Mindful Dining: We serve fresh, local cuisine and gently request that guests take only what they can eat to help minimise food waste.
  • No Plastic Reminder: We kindly ask guests not to bring plastic bags and bottles — but if you do, we’ll happily give you a complimentary reusable goodie bag to use during your stay and take home as a small gift from Tanmatrra.
  • Simple Comforts: Instead of flashy luxuries, you’ll find clean, cozy spaces, wholesome local food, and a genuine connection to nature, people, and place.

At Tanmatrra, we believe true luxury is living lightly — and leaving nature better than we found it.

Our resort is designed for you to relax, unwind, and soak in the beautiful scenery and peaceful vibe. You can enjoy leisurely nature walks and take a refreshing dip in the natural stream. We have plenty of traditional indoor games, badminton rackets, and bicycles for you to explore the surroundings at your own pace.

We also offer off-road jeep rides to nearby spots — these are subject to weather conditions and are available at an additional cost.

Mudigere is a year-round destination, each season offering its own unique charm. The monsoon months (June to September) transform the region into a lush green paradise with misty hills, flowing streams, and waterfalls at their best — perfect for nature lovers. The post-monsoon and winter months (October to February) are pleasantly cool and ideal for cozy stays, nature walks, and clear mountain views. Even in summer (March to May), Mudigere stays refreshingly pleasant compared to the plains, making it a wonderful escape for families and friends looking to unwind close to nature.

We don’t have a dedicated pick-up service, but if you arrive at Mudigere, local auto rickshaws or cabs can bring you to the property. An auto usually costs around ₹600, while cab fares may vary depending on the service.
